Pan-American Virtual Conferences in Dermatology

picmed

The purpose of this program is to use videoconferencing (VTC) technology to provide an international forum for continuing medical education for dermatologists, dermatology residents and medical students in Latin America, the Caribbean and the isolated U.S. states of Alaska, Hawaii and Guam. The series involves live lectures from UM dermatology faculty with the opportunity for interactive question-and-answer sessions with audiences from around the western hemisphere. The CME mission is to enhance dermatologic education of clinicians in remote medical communities and to facilitate the exchange of expert opinion internationally. There has been tremendous interest expressed by dermatologists both academic and private and also governmental officials to continue to receive these lectures reflecting the need for this type of educational program. The 2008 program was supported by a grant from the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) program for innovative continuing medical education in dermatology (PICMED). Several hundred participants from over 50 sites in 5 countries – Argentina, Brazil, Bahamas, Mexico, and the United States (Alaska, Hawaii, Guam) – participated in the 2008 program.  We expect new sites to be added in already participating countries as well as Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and the West Indies.

Schedule

The sessions are conducted on the first Friday of most months, from 12:00-13:00 U.S. Eastern time.
